Using AI in Recruitment
Artificial Intelligence (AI) can be a powerful tool to enhance your college athletic recruitment journey. Tools like ChatGPT can help you craft professional emails to coaches, organize your recruitment materials, and research programs that align with your academic and athletic goals. However, knowing how to use AI effectively - and responsibly - is key to making the most of this technology.
AI can streamline coach communication by helping you draft polished and engaging emails highlighting your skills, achievements, and personality. You can use AI to brainstorm responses to questions coaches might ask during interviews or practice articulating your goals during video calls. When using AI to help write emails and responses, make sure to go back through and see that the information is accurate. AI likes to do this thing where if they can't find the right information, they will make something up. It's called AI hallucination. It would not be a good idea to send an email to a college coach with the completely wrong information about their program or college. Also, make sure to add back in pieces of your personality- the coach wants to get to know you, not AI.
A good way to make sure your AI-crafted information is true to you is to use the crafted email as a template or inspiration for your email- don't copy and paste. You can also run your final product through an AI checker to make sure it doesn't sound too robotic- AI can sound generic or impersonal.
By using AI as a supportive tool, not a replacement for your creative thinking, you can enhance your college recruitment process and stand out as a thoughtful, prepared, and committed student-athlete.
